Born and raised in Sussex, Kenneth Ikin studied at West Sussex Art College and then Manchester Art College. After working in Northamptonshire for may years teaching art and ceramics, Kenneth moved to Dalbeattie in 2004. He has since exhibited in many local galleries.
His paintings are bold abstract images which try to convey his emotional reactions to life's experiences. In his sculptures he makes novel use of locally-found tree bark and creeper as well as creating more figurative works.
"In my paintings, I try to express reactions to life's unseen experiences — shadows, echoes and fragments of perception. My technique is very direct. Mostly I use a knife, producing heavily textured surfaces which suggest the energy with which the paint is applied. My scultures offer a personal response to the splendour of natural forms."
